Pirates reign supreme in 2018

26 Sep 2018 by Ryan Pearce

Sunday September 23rd 2018 would start like any other day, the sun would rise upon Chelsworth Park & the locals would be out enjoying the tranquility of the space.

Come 1pm all of that would change as the lead-up banter would be silenced by the first ball of the innings, a crushing cut shot from the Pirates opener would set the tone for what was a dominant performance by the Pirates over the legless Lizards.

The result was inevitable, but was compounded by some baffling batting order decisions from Lizards Founder & Captain Chris Cleland. The Pirates are now 6 time World T20 Champions, a feat unlikely to ever be challenged.

A standout performer on the day was from new recruit Joshua Maccarone, he was solid with the new ball & handy with the bat in the late order, but perhaps his most devastating performance on the day was in the Social T20 Sprint final where he dashed clear in the final stages to win by over 2 metres.

Another good day down at OIGCC & the boys just can’t wait to hit round 1 on October 6.
